Panelized Construction - A Description
A panelized system of construction means that complete structure of the home or other typed of building is completed inside the factory walls. The walls of your project are factory-made in large sections, or panels and when completed delivered to the job site for erection. When required and to save time, doors and windows can be pre-installed in the panels, referred to as being pre-hung. The Somundy panel can be delivered as a "basic steel panel" or as a a "finished panel", ready for stucco with the "OSB" sheathing, "TermoTyvek" vapor barrier and metal lath already in place. Our panels are designed so that they can be quickly connected to one another to complete the structure of the project, and when combined with our roofing systems allows you to have a completely enclosed, secure work environment within a few days. Allowing your other tradesmen to start and finish their work much faster.

Quality of a Panelized Home
All panelized homes have to conform to the strictest of regional building codes, as a result are generally better-made than required by local building codes. Since the panels are factory produced, under tight controls and not affected by weather conditions, the workmanship is excellent. Only the best materials are used, “LSF” steel profiles with the highest quality of Zinc Galvanization, "OSB 3" for exterior sheathing etc., all work together to produce a quality and reliable product. Quality control is always a concern for us, and we are constantly looking for ways to improve our line, bearing in mind that our goal is to produce as much as possible in house, under a factory controlled environment to minimize the work done on-site and the chance sloppy work and mistakes occurring during the finishing of the project.
Exterior Wall Panels
Exterior walls are framed and sheathed in lengths up to 6m in length. Specially designed "Erection Hooks" are supplied for setting wall panels in place by crane or boom truck. Framing consists of 90mm or 140mm steel studs 40 cm on center or 60 cm on center. The frames for the exterior doors and windows are already in place where needed on the exterior panel. When required and to save valuable time the PVC or vinyl insulated doors and windows any sliding glass doors can also be pre-installed at this point. In most cases the exterior walls are then sheathed with 11mm of OSB and our “TermoTyvek” vapour barrier, at which point the structure is capable of accepting virtually any type of exterior finish the client desires.
Roof And Ceiling Framing
Roof and ceiling loads are carried by pre-assembled roof trusses spaced at 40 cm 60 cm on center. Roof rafters are supplied for models with vaulted ceilings. Roof sheathing and overhangs is 11 mm OSB sheathing grade. Gable sheathing and siding shipped loose.
Floor Framing
Floor framing consists of Steel Joist or Floor Trusses, sheathed with 18 mm OSB sub floor, blocking, and joist hangers. Floor framing can be supplied on kit or panelized.
Exterior Trim
Fascia, band board and unassembled corner boards are shipped loose for cutting, fitting and site installation by others. All other components are as per plan and/or project requirements
Assembled Interior Partitions “Non-load bearing walls”
Interior partitions can be supplied on kit or panelized, Steel stud panels 40 cm or 60 on center, Door and closet headers are installed where required.
Exterior doors are primed, insulated metal in a design fitting the architectural style of the house. All exterior doors are supplied with lockset's and deadbolts
